International Fluency Association President Prof. Dr. Kurt EGGERS was at DILGEM!

Prof. Dr. Kurt EGGERS came to Istanbul to give a two-day seminar at the invitation of DILGEM during his busy schedule.

Dr. EGGERS gave an interactive training titled "STUTTERING THERAPY-Age-Specific Cognitive, Emotional and Behavioral Analysis" at the DİlGEM – Ataşehir branch. Speech and language pathology expert ​Barış DINÇER provided simultaneous Turkish translation for participants who do not speak English. 

The 2-day seminar consisted of 4 lectures. In the first lecture of the seminar, Dr. EGGERS talked about the definition, basics, phenomenology, etiology, and general evaluation of fluency disorders.

Dr. EGGERS, who easily connected with the participants and carried on with his lecture with an air of casual conversation answered the participants’ questions and provided insight on participants’ own fluency disorder cases. 

Dr. EGGERS, who stayed in Istanbul during the two-day seminar also got a chance to explore Istanbul with the DİlGEM Management Members and flew to Belgium to return to his busy schedule in the early hours of the morning after the seminar was over.

​Kurt EGGERS is the coordinator of the European Clinical Specialization in Fluency Disorders, president of the International Fluidity Association and a member of the fluency committee of the International Association for Logopedi and Fundiatrics. In addition to his experience in clinical practice, EGGERS has given lectures and published research around the world. Kurt EGGERS graduated from medical school, completed his master’s degree in speech therapy and completed his doctorate in Biomedical Sciences & Developmental Psychology. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Language and Speech Disorders at Thomas More University in Belgium and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Language & Speech Disorders at the University of Turku in Finland. He is also as a visiting professor at Oulu University of Finland.

Dr. EGGERS will be in Istanbul again on 3 – 4 March for the second session of his four-session training, 31 March – 01 April for the third session and 14 – 15 April for the last session. The title of the next sessions will be "Stuttering Assessment and Therapy in Preschool Children", "Stuttering Assessment and Therapy in School-Age Children" and "Stuttering Assessment and Therapy in Adolescents and Adults", respectively.

In addition, Dr. EGGERS will give a speech titled "Stuttering Assessment and Therapy in Preschool Age for Language and Speech Therapy Undergraduate Students" at Ataşehir DİlGEM branch for language and speech therapy students for one day on April 13.

Having hosted many famous academicians, both domestic and foreign, in many fields such as Language and Speech Therapy, Psychology, Counselling and Special Education, DILGEM creates educational opportunities to train more competent and knowledgeable experts in its fields. In addition to events such as DIR Floortime Seminars, which we have already finalized, we are currently talking with many famous researchers and institutions from all over the world to organize even larger educational organizations.
